Endoscopy

Endoscopy

At Severn Edge Equine Vets we are equipped with a 3 meter long video gastroscope. This hi-tech piece of equipment allows us to look into your horse's stomach for signs of gastric ulceration while recording pictures for further comparison.

The video endscope is also an ideal tool for looking at the respiratory system of your horse. We can use it to investigate nasal discharges, coughing, increased respiratory noises and nose bleeds. Tracheal washes (fluid sampling from the wind-pipe) and biopsies can be taken at the same time.

Horses requiring gastroscopy will need to be starved for 12hrs before ‘scoping.

We do have smaller endoscopes that can be taken out onto yards to carry out upper respiratory tract investigations and tracheal washes.
